I'm learning recently that the use of TOE in the Broadcom NetXtreme II (5708/9) network adapters isn't always guaranteed to improve performance, that in some cases it can be expected to create lag.
I'm interested in PVE user's experiences with this feature.
I see it was once suspect in the process of troubleshooting a throughput issue:
My first impression was that since I get a SIOCGIFMTU error whenever I try to increase the interface's MTU beyond 1500, the enabling of TOE would be a benefit because of that alone.
Now I'm having second thoughts.
What has been found to benefit from it & in what cases does the feature become a liability?
Thanks in advance.

Is TOE enabled in the BIOS?
