Hello,

I need to pass an actual PCIe x1 sound card to Linux and Windows guest VMs. Crisp, as-good-as-bare-metal sound is a requirement for these VMs, unfortunately.

It's been about 25 years since I've needed to buy a sound card, and I have no idea what to get that'll actual work in Linux and Windows. I do know that Creative's Linux support is lol no, so I have no idea what to get.

What are y'all using for PCIe audio where crisp, low-latency spoken word audio and music is the use case? In particular, I'm looking to be able to decode and playback software defined radio data live.

I've always used PCI passthrough of the motherboard on-board audio (old Intel and Ryzen) for movies and games but maybe that was just luck. Also, USB headsets (Audeze and HyperX) but only with a PCIe passed through USB controller (for proper low-latency and less overhead). But everything I used is probably not up to your audio standards.
If you already have a USB controller passed through then that would be the safest route if you can find out Linux support for the USB audio device of your choice on the internet.
