Question:
Has anyone experienced this with R720s and M.2 SATA setups? Any suggestions on how to get the system to recognize the boot drive again?

I’m running two Dell R720 servers:
- Server 1: R720 with 3.5" drive slots
- Server 2: R720 with 2.5" drive slots
- Boot setup (both): M.2 SATA with Proxmox VE installed
Issue:
After a power cycle, the R720 with the 3.5" slots no longer boots. It seems the M.2 SATA boot was corrupted.
What I tried:
- Reloaded the boot software onto the M.2 SATA using the 2.5" R720
- Confirmed Proxmox is still installed on the drive
- Swapped between both risers and SATA connections
Error Message:
On boot I get:
“Strike F1 to Reboot”
The system does not detect the M.2 drive.
Question:
Has anyone experienced this with R720s and M.2 SATA setups? Any suggestions on how to get the system to recognize the boot drive again?
Thanks,
Justin
