Hi,
I was wondering if someone could shed some light, currently im going to buy https://www.amazon.com/PowerEdge-R7...refinements=p_4:Dell&s=merchant-items&sr=1-14

and was thinking to put 8 disks SSD 1tb intel optane (not sure which ref yet) in ZFS using Dell H310 mini monolithic K09CJ with LSI 9211-8i P20 IT Mode

my question is what pros and cons of having SSD on ZFS i was reading about the ssd wears that it dies quickly? and also read about trimming? that it has be done manually?

Thank you

Optane does not experience wearout. It is not flash!
That's the whole point of this new storage media (aside that its very fast...)

i was reading about the ssd wears that it dies quickly?

Consumer and Prosumer, sure. Enterprise SSD are much beefier and wear our really, really slow (in comparison to the other ones).

We have hundreds of enterprise grade SSDs running in various datacenters and we never ran into the wearout. We also never had a faulty SSD (in comparison to HDD in the same datacenters in the same storage networks). It also depends heavily on your use case. We only write a couple of hundred GB a day, so your milage can vary.

Thanks for the reply, as for the enterprise would be intel optane? as for the trimming is it necessary?

To make that clear as it somehow got lost obviously. OPTANE (3D xPoint) is NOT flash.
The mechanisms of flash including trimming don't apply

Thanks for the reply so its a rule so i guess i should do it, but is it like scrubbing the pool? and what are the consequences if i don't trim?

I was reading on how its done but couldn't find any good docs

Come on. Are you actually reading what I am writing???
Nothing happens if you dont trim. Optane doesnt need it as it is no flash. It is a different media type. If you don't believe me go read the Intel specs.

thanks for the reply, sorry i did not understand what you meant but thank you so i know now that intel optane does not need to trim only trimming for SSD something like kingston
is there any tweak for ssd i should be aware about?

Thank you
