Hello Community,
I'm seeking advice on my current home setup, which is configured as follows:
For context, my homelab has two Ethernet ports (one 1Gbps and one 2.5Gbps), and there's plenty of RAM and CPU available.
Thank you!
I'm seeking advice on my current home setup, which is configured as follows:
- ISP/Internet -> Fibre/Media converter (Unsure of the propert term) -> Homelab (running Proxmox)
- Proxmox -> pfSense -> Managed Switch -> Home Appliances
The Issue:
I'm facing a couple of challenges:- Hostname Resolution:
Proxmox isn't resolving hostnames. I've checked my DNS settings but suspect the issue lies elsewhere—likely a configuration problem, as the VM running pfSense has connectivity. - Firewall Configuration:
I've enabled the Datacenter firewall, but I'm uncertain if there's a default rule I need to modify.
The Dilemma:
I'm caught in a bit of a "chicken and egg" situation. I want my Proxmox instance to be protected by the pfSense firewall. However, since pfSense is running as a VM on Proxmox, putting it in front of Proxmox creates a circular dependency. This seems like it could be the best option to avoid configuring multiple firewalls, but I'm not sure how to implement it without causing issues.Request for Help:
If anyone could offer some advice on how to set this up correctly, I would greatly appreciate it.For context, my homelab has two Ethernet ports (one 1Gbps and one 2.5Gbps), and there's plenty of RAM and CPU available.
Thank you!
