Hi all,
So, I'm wondering if someone could help shed some light on what I'm trying to achieve.
Currently, I have 2 servers, and I'm having them both on their own subnet, both on 24 masks, 172.16.1.x and 172.16.2.x
I have an Asus router (RT-AC3200), I'm due to upgrade soon as its outdated.
My network topology goes as (And yes, I am aware of double natting, I'm resolving that when I switch my ISP). though, could this be the issue?
Modem (in router mode) -> Asus router -> Cisco Managed switch -> Servers.
My end goal is to set up pfSense or PIHole serving as each DHCP and PIHole blocking any ads.
Anyway, I'm running into issues where from my router side my router and PC cannot talk with my server when they're on a different subnet.
With that said, I've also set up routes to those different subnets, but still no connection between the router and the servers, the servers can talk to each other however.
Anyway, for some reason, taking routing out of the question, firewall is off (temporarily to see if that's the issue, which it isn't), for some reason though, when I change my router's mask to /22, it's able to communicate with both subnets.
So my questions are;
1. What could I be doing wrong? xD
2. Would it harm anything with the subnet mask being set to /22 on the router and the others run on /24 ? - Answered my own question by actually testing things.
Before I set my router to /22 however, when I ran a traceroute, it would go outbound to the internet and not locally.
Any advise is appreciated.
Cheers.
