PVE sending SMART error email after RAID controller pass through

Hi,

I have a 9460-8i RAID card installed on PVE 8.2 and passing it through to a VM. Every time this VM starts, SMARTd would send error noticing emails like below:

This message was generated by the smartd daemon running on:

host name: XXXXX
DNS domain: XXXXXX

The following warning/error was logged by the smartd daemon:

Device: /dev/bus/17 [megaraid_disk_20], Read SMART Self-Test Log Failed

Device info:
[WDC WUH721818AL5204 C232], lu id: 0x5000cca28457557c, S/N: XXXXXJ, 18.0 TB

You can also use the smartctl utility for further investigation.

Another message will be sent in 24 hours if the problem persists.

I think I know the reason why this is happening but I don't know how to solve it properly.

when the host starts, the smartd daemon can read the SMART status of certain drives and log it. after I start the VM which the card passing through to, the RAID card is removed from the system then pass through to the VM, so the smartd can not track drives attached to it, since I've set the email notification, I got mails. I have 12 drives on that controller so I receive 12 mails once a day......

I backed up the file /etc/smartmontools/run.d/10mail, emptied the file and left it there, it will stop the email. But, the problem still there.

I don't know if this is some sort of bug, or can be improved in the future, Please let me know if there's another way to report this issue.

Thanks, but it looks like different. I have access before the certain VM start. The reason of this bug is smartd daemon is not aware the card is passed through and keeps tracking it, reporting error when drive not exist (actually they are passed through)
