Hello guys,

My company is starting up an office and we have some concerns. Our main office is located in Greece and the new office will be located in Cyprus, thus I will be travelling there in order to manage the installation.

Aiming to minimize my time there, I plan to prepare a hard disk beforehand (and a backup for any screw ups) with the entire setup (pve and services), then plug it in the server. I understand that problems with configuration of pve due to the different hardware will arise.

So, I was wondering what would the process to reconfigure the pve for the new server and if it is possible at all. Also, I would like to know your opinion about the plan. Is it worthwhile to move the whole installation or I should instead move(backup and restore) the vms.

Best regards,
Kostas Alexopoulos

Normally, there are no problems. Proxmox VE is based on Linux, not Windows, so it should work out-of-the-box.

I wonder why you don't buy a "real" server with a hardware console (iRMC, iLo, idrac, etc.) and administer from remote. You then don't have to travel a lot.
