Hi Proxmox,

I had 3 SSD and will create a RAID-5.
The usable size roughly will be 2TB after the RAID.
I want to share 2TB for OS, VM and Backup by using partitioning during the pve installation.

1. What is the recommended pve OS disk size/partition?
2. What is the disk format should i use, ext4?

Hope someone can point me out.

Depends on what you want to store on the root partition. Usually this is the OS + ISOs and CT templates, if you do not have a dedicated storage for that (e.g. NFS). If you only want the OS then the amount the Proxmox installer allocates should be more than plenty. If you want to store other stuff on there like lots of ISO images, then you might want to increase that storage a bit.

Since you have a RAID storage, ZFS is probably not suitable, so ext4 should be fine.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.
During pve installation, the installer auto-allocates root partition. So, if i want 100GB for root partition, how could i possibly achieve it?

You could create a logical drive in your RAID 5 (think this is what I would do) or use a partition to achieve it.

A logical drive on the raid controller would result in a different device node in the OS (e.g. give you SDA and SDB)

In the end you achieve similar things. Mostly it is personal preference.
Both options have its pros and cons but I don't want to overcomplicate things.
