Good Evening

I am a new user for both PVE and PBS and have the error in the title appearing.
Both servers are running on physically separate machines and and are operating with no problems.
The PBS is reachable at it's FQDN on the local network and can be logged into with no problems.

However, when I try to add the PBS as storage in PVE, I get the communication error 500.
I believe that it is happening due to PVE appending the port (8007) to the end of the FQDN in the server field as once I fill all of the fields and click add, the port appears at the end of the FQDN in the server field.

This does not make sense to me, if you have a FQDN, you should not need the port to connect.
Hoping someone can direct as to how to resolve this.
Apologies if the question has been asked before.

Thank you for responding.
Nothing blocked that I can see and when I completed the initial PBS install, I was able to connect remotely via the IP address and port with no problems.
As mentioned, I also can connect remotely using the FQDN and log in with no issues.

I have attached a screenshot showing the settings used and error message if that helps.
Are there any logs that I can supply that might help also?

EDIT: By changing the server field to use the IP address and port (192.168.1.225:8007), the connection was made which along with the fact that the web gui works with the FQDN, reinforces my view that PBS is unnecessarily trying to add the port to the end of the FQDN.

yes if you don't want to use the default port (8007) you have to specify the custom one, in your case i guess it's '443' since that's normally the default https port
so just enter in the server: your.fqdn.net.nz:443
