I have 3 brand new to me Dell R640's, 2 of them installed fine the third we eventually got the OS to install on however overnight it kernel panic'd and we rebooted it and the OS wont boot all the way. We had to do nomodeset on install. This is with the latest 8.3.1 iso file. I have a ton of machines running proxmox but have never had this issue. The vendor who supplied the hardware swapped out the machine and this is a different machine with the exact same issues.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Hello denigma! If possible, could you please post the output of journal --since with a time at least 30 minutes before the crash?

What do you mean by "OS wont boot all the way"? Do you see any error message, or any specific behavior? We would need some more information to be able to diagnose further.

it locks up initializing the lvm. There is no specific error message. Sometimes after fiddling it will boot. I will fiddle when I have a moment and i will run a journal command and paste it here.

Thanks!

Thanks for the files. I see multiple segmentation faults at multiple points in time, so it seems that your system is unstable. There are different reasons why this can happen. I would recommend trying the following:
  1. Try running a memtest, since such issues are often caused by faulty RAM.
  2. Enable microcode updates. For this you need to enable the the non-free-firmware Debian repository and install the CPU-vendor specific microcode package.
  3. Try running a CPU stress test.
