I am running virtual machines on Proxmox VE 8.2, where all VMs are stored on local file storage with the ext4 filesystem format. Ceph storage is used as a shared resource for temporary use by VMs. Typically, when a host requires maintenance, I need to quickly migrate VMs to the Ceph storage.
During a failure migration, I moved a qcow2 disk from local storage to Ceph storage. After the host was restored, when migrating the qcow2 disk back from Ceph to local storage, I noticed that the qcow2 disk had changed from thin provisioning to thick provisioning. When attempting to migrate the qcow2 disk directly from one host's local storage to another host's local storage, the format reverted from thick provisioning back to thin provisioning.
In my test environment using PVE 8.1, this issue does not occur. When migrating from Ceph storage to local storage, the qcow2 disk remains in thin provisioning mode.
Could you please advise on how to resolve this issue?
