PVE 8.2 Installation stuck at "Waiting for /dev to be fully populated..."

That normally indicates that some device doesn't come up properly.
Have you tried updating the firmware of the server to the latest version? That often solves many issues.

Do these servers have any special hardware installed that could potentially cause problems? RAID controllers, GPUs, etc.

Another things you can try:
- Removing the quiet parameter from the kernel command line (pressing e in the bootloader screen when booting the ISO)
- Using a slightly older ISO (e.g. 7.4-1 Proxmox VE ISO), as these have older kernel versions

Heyya,

I just wanted to chime in here and say that, I, too, was plagued by this issue when I began to migrate from an unprivileged LXC container with a full installation of `proxmox-backup-server` on it to a fresh new virtual machine with the latest `8.3` version of the ISO to bootstrap the OS. I did this from a Proxmox VE 8.3 (latest updates) node. The display type configured to start with was **vmware compatible**, or `vmware` for the **VGA** parameter.

I first attempted to boot from the console installer, followed by the console installer debug option. Neither worked, although the debug console installer did *appear* to maybe get a bit further. I may have terminated it too early, but in any case, I remembered somewhere around this point that I had created the VM with **Secure Boot** enabled by default. Whether or not the installer works with it enabled, I cannot say, but I made sure to disable **Secure Boot**. Lastly, I also made sure that the OVMF configuration set the default resolution to 720p for me.

The last boot, I tried the default graphical installer and sure enough, although it did appear to hang at the same spot, it did boot within a minute of launch. I believe that I had already tried the graphical installer once without any luck, but after I had gone through the UEFI configuration menu and set the default resolution, as well as disabling **Secure Boot** was what fixed booting the ISO for me. I haven't tried the console installer options since.

Just my two cents. Maybe this helps somebody else out there. Either way, I must run. Cheers!

**EDIT**: I just realized that this thread is in regards to the PVE installer and not PBS. My bad, but in any case, I have had the same experience with both installers and thus my advice should apply equally, more or less?
