Why does that FAQ have:
Q: What network setups are supported between Proxmox Datacenter Manager and remotes?
A: In general the Proxmox Datacenter Manager needs to be able to connect to all Proxmox VE remotes directly to send API requests and query load and usage metrics. Remotes on the other hand do not need to be able to connect to Datacenter Manager directly. Reverse proxies between Proxmox Datacenter Manager and any of its Proxmox VE remotes are not supported, we recommend using tunneling (for example, WireGuard or OpenVPN) for hosts that must not be exposed directly to a non-private network.

I had the old version connecting to our clusters that way, and seems to still be working. It even works better, as I don't have to figure out the fingerprint as the cluster proxy has a valid 3rd party cert for the cluster. It's still able to connect direct to the nodes, but the initial setup seems to work fine via the proxy.

We currently do not actively support reverse proxies, but as long as the proxy is basically relaying everything transparently it does not really make a difference for PDM and it will work.

as I don't have to figure out the fingerprint
FYI: PDM 0.9 shows you the queried fingerprint in the remote-add wizard, where you can simply accept it making this much simpler compared to the alpha.
