Proxmox8.1 not detecting the boot SSD

I want to run Proxmox from a SSD. I went to the boot menu and selected the SSD ( a PNY 240GB ) and it boots into proxmox. However when it comes to the Target Harddisk the PNY SSD is not listed, only my laptops SSD is listed which runs Ubuntu and I dont want to install proxmox on that.

Why the PNY SSD not listed?

Did you put your installation media onto the pny ssd? If yes, you need to separate that and put the image on a usb-media or cd-rom or so, then our pny will be listed in the installer because it is not used by the installer for installing proxmox.

since it's probably a (cheap) consumer SSD, you might be affected by https://bugzilla.proxmox.com/show_bug.cgi?id=4770
Basically, they hardware does not implement the specification correctly and thus Linux cannot detect properly it without a specific workaround baked into the kernel.

You can try installing stock Debian 12 and then Proxmox VE on top of it. The Debian installer ships with a different kernel, which might or might not have the same problem.
