Hi,

I want to build a Proxmox VE server with Ryzen Threadripper/x399/96Gb ECC Kingston. It will be a production server with 9 VM Windows 10 and various apps (office and professionnal accounting applications) for the moment and 12 VM in a near future. I don't know at all if Proxmox is stable or unstable with this kind of build.

My other solution is a Core i9 7900X/X299/96Gb non-ECC but Ryzen seems more interesting for the cost. (for the same power, Xeon is totally out of our wallet)

Thank you.

Hi,

I can't tell you about Ryzen Threadripper but we run a PVE Developer WS with Ryzen 1800X and an Epic Server.
Both work fine.
The only thing is the Ryzen do not support reading sensors out of the box.

Hi all;

Here after my configuration. Is it compatible with proxmox and how many machines can we run with.

I am running my instance on 1950X with ASRock X399 Professional Gaming. I didn't face any showstoppers but there are some issues which you may be interested in.
1. Proxmox 5.2 didn't start with WB Black NVMe SSD. This issue is not specific to proxmox or Ryzen I think because none of the linux distros (Fedora, Ubuntu etc) work with it either. Got it working after adding a flag in grub. Samsung 970 EVO didn't have any issue. So it could be a driver issue of linux kernel with WD Black
2. FreeNAS VM didn't start after setting up the configuration. I didn't spend much time analyzing the issue because all I wanted was ZFS and I could manage it with ubuntu server easily.
3. Unable to reboot/shutdown the system. Proxmox shutdown process just hangs in the end. Created a thread on it just now. (https://forum.proxmox.com/threads/reboot-shutdown-hangs-with-kworker-blocked-message.47218/)

Other than these, I didn't face any issue. Able to create and run vms. So far I have created VMs of Ubuntu, Mint and CentOS. All of them works perfectly and beautifully. :)

My Hardware :
Processor: TR1950X
MB: ASRock X399 Professional Gaming
RAM: G.Skill TridentZ 128GB 3300.
Boot Drive : Samsung 970 EVO 250GB
Other Storage : WD Black NVMe 1 TB , 4x4 GB WD RED
