Also, this is a fresh install, from a USB stick onto a new system - 8.0.2 is being used. i am using a shuttle, intel chipset and 2 of the 500GB SSD drives with 16GB of RAM. the process of install goes well up to this point. i am very linux savy sysAdmin, done type-1 processors for years and years, but this is my first entry into proxmox, we might be making a switch and I want to be ready - so i'm a proxmox n00b.

Hi,

the error indicates that decompression failed. Check that your installation media is not corrupted and that the disk you try to install it on is fine.

RESOLVED!!

Thank you @fiona. you have been very helpful. after reading your note - I have 2 drives, both of them were 500GB SSD in the system. So. I took them both out and put in an older single 1TB spinning iron disk. I repeated the install procedure with the same installation media as before and..

EVERYTHING WORKED. I'm up and running on my first ProxMox.

Hello, I had this error, I struggled with it for 2 days, changed disks and all that, and then wrote and checked the RAM, found out that one of the strips had a bunch of errors, removed one strip and everything was installed right away.
