Proxmox VE control panel times out when accessed over a port forward?

I know - it's unsafe to port forward my control panel, but I have a justification.
The servers run in my garage (homelab) and I want to access it from inside my house.
Both routers are connected to a switch that connects directly to the fiber from my ISP (so they both have ISP public IPs)
I port forwarded from the garage router, specifically setting my source IP to the WAN IP of my house router, confirming that from any other public IP the connection is refused.

With that said, when I try to access the control panel from my house router, instead of refusing the connection it just loads for a couple minutes and times out.
What is going on? how do I fix it?
Yes, I did also try to remove the source IP requirement from the port forward temporarily and the same thing happened. Yes, I tried different computers. Yes, I tried different routers. No clue what's going on. My best guess is some kind of idiot proofing that makes it so proxmox won't work over the internet, but like I said, I only need to access it from my home net and so it is being port forwarded only to my home net in an effort to be more secure. Yes I know I can use a VPN, but in the meantime what do I do?

Just in case you tell me to make a VPN, I want to make it in a container so I need to use the control panel anyway, and I don't feel like squatting in my garage for hours.

In general the packets should just need to follow the connection:

PC <-> router <-> garage router <-> Proxmox

Did you enable the firewall in Proxmox and maybe need to allow the remote IP?
It was the firewall, chatbot told me both the node and datacenter needed it turned on to allow a VM to have it on, turns out only the datacenter needs it on. Chatbot stoopid, I disabled it on the node and I can connect. Will do some firewall rules, but thank you! solved.
