I have proxmox running on an older dell server
All was working fine until earlier today i unplugged the ethernet cable, plugged a switch in and ran a cable from the switch back to the server. I have gone through so many forum posts and tried everything including ifdown and ifup, rebooting. I have the static ip set to 192.168.50.175, vbrm0 is up and states this is connected, there are 2 ethernet ports in the back of the server, neither of them seem to be working ... I am at a loss now and its so fustrating.. some one please help!

Is there a link light on the card and is the state UP when looking at "ip a" output? (of the physical interface). Can you provide that output?

Can you define what "not working" means? Are you getting any ARPs? If you have tcpdump installed, is there any traffic at all? If the switch is managed - what does the switch think about the port and end-point?

Where did you unplug the ethernet cable from? What kind of switch is it? Have you tried a different cable? Have you tried to return to previous known good configuration, is it still functional? What about different port on the switch?

Hi bbgeek, ok so config wise i havent changed anything, the status of vmbr0 is up, the state of both eno1 and eno2 are down, they are both all set to auto in the config file

there are no arps at all from either port, it is not managed switch at all. I unplugged from eno1 and yes i have tried different cables. my issue is i cannot revert to any known good configs as this was the last known good config, the /etc/network/interfaces is this :

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

auto eno1
iface eno1 inet manual
auto vmbr0
iface vmbr0 inet static
address 192.168.50.175
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.50.1
bridge-ports eno1
bridge-stp off
bridge-fd 0

iface enp9s0f0 inet manual

iface enp9s0f1 inet manual

iface eno2 inet manual

I have moved ports on the switch as well,

both eno1 and eno2 are down
Well, that's a problem.

I think you misunderstood me, when I said go to the last known configuration, I meant physical, not software. Remove the switch, plug original cable to wherever it was plugged before.

Please provide "ip a" output from PVE in "bad" and "good" state (if you can return to it).

Good luck.
