Hi,
I am currently running Esxi on a mini PC, with two large drives, One SSD for my working images, and one HDD for backup.
Esxi itself is running on a durable UsB drive.
Although I am quite happy with this system, as we know ESXi is not free anymore.

I want to switch to Proxmox.

Can I just install proxmox on another USB, put it in my mini PC, convert a copy of the VM images to something that proxmox understands, and done?

During the first test phase, I want of course be able to just put the other (ESXi) stick back in case of problems.

no it is not recommended to run proxmox on USB. proxmox requires reliable hard disk.
Hi,
I am not talking about a regular USB drive, but something like a SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD

Kind regards,
