Hi Forum,
I'm looking for advice for my homelab-setup.
As a sidenote; I have a running Proxmox installation - but I don't know if I've set it up correctly.
My server;
As a sidenote; why I went with a SFF model? -> I got a bargain on the formerly (new) server.
What I would like to achieve is increase storage size (plain and simple), and during that "project" overhaul/optimize my Proxmox installation (of course I have regular vm dumps to start over).
I've found that there is a 3-disk LFF cage that I could utilize, so this could be a possible entry point. I know that I'd need to give up the second SFF cage if I don't add a second RAID controller.
Now to my first question - is it possible to pass through that whole LFF cage to a single Proxmox-VM (maybe TrueNAS)? Currently, I've mounted the two RAID-arrays in Proxmox' underlying Debian to actually see them Proxmox, where they're configured as "directories". This brings me back to my initial statement "I don't know if I've set it up correctly".
Now to my second question - is there any resource you could recommend (maybe a guide?), that would point me into the right direction on how to "correctly" setup Proxmox on a similar hardware?
And my final question - if you needed to decide, would you rather go into the direction of going for that mentioned LFF-cage with pass-through for a TrueNAS-VM or completely go into another direction, like setting up a dedicated storage device (like UNAS PRO, for example)?
Thanks for your time!

My server;
- a ProLiant DL380 Gen10 (the model with 2x SFF(!) cages)..
- ..with 8x 1,8TB SAS disks installed, each cage (containing 4 disks) is configured as a RAID5 array..
- ..via the onboard HPE Smart Array P408i-a SR Gen10..
- ..where the first SFF-cage (RAID-array #1) serves as VM-space..
- ..and the second SFF-cage (RAID-array #2) serves as storage (photos, videos, personal dirs and so on)
