Hello there,
I am wondering how to fix this network issue on my Proxmox HP server laptop at home. It was working perfectly fine up until around when my public IP Address changed. What my theory is is that my modem decided to self-assign multiple IPs to my Proxmox computer, making it inaccessible to me, at least in the web interface. I have tried to edit /etc/hosts and /etc/network interfaces with the same IP that I used before (which was 192.168.0.200), and it self-assigned back to 192.168.0.48 and 192.168.0.49. I have tried 192.168.0.48, 192.168.0.200, 192.168.0.500 (which was the last one until I gave up), and it kept defaulting back at 192.168.0.48, which again, didn't work with the modem. Bottom line, no local IP that I put down worked, even .48 and .49 (which my modem liked to default back to).

When I also tried putting in 192.168.0.200 again (*into both network files*), it automatically made 1 local IP 192.168.0.48 and the other one on the modem 192.168.0.200. Both are inaccessible in the browser.

The screenshots below basically describe the problem as well, if you didn't really pick up what I was putting down. I've gone through many forum posts as well, and since I'm not really an expert with Proxmox alone, I don't really know where to go with this. I would really like access to my home server back!!

The modem screenie is here and it has 2 IPs assigned to my Proxmox computer, and I do not own 2 Proxmox computers.

there's a full guide here to changing the host ip address,
https://www.servethehome.com/how-to-change-primary-proxmox-ve-ip-address/

I would advise choosing something high up in your network range (192.168.0.250-254) to minimise the chance of your modem assigning the same address to another device on your network. Even better, change the settings on your modem's dhcp server to only use addresses below the range assigned to the proxmox host. BTW 192.168.0.500 is not a valid ip address and will never work

Alright, so I have tried changing to multiple other IPs in /etc/hosts and /etc/network/interfaces. I also tried switching to 192.168.0.254. This ended up being the gateway of my modem for file sharing, so what I did was change it to either 192.168.0.250 or 192.168.0.251 the next reboot it didn't work. Both of these did not work, and I did restart and made sure to put :8006 after each IP that I changed to. Everything is still refusing every connection I put to it, for example, I had pinged it using cmd and a network tool, SSHing into it, and putting it in the browser address bar, both of which haven't worked. I really need some files on the server, so resetting it isn't really an option right now. I don't think there is a way to recover files any way than accessing the GUI.

Also, I don't think there's a way to customize my DHCP server things on my Netgear modem page. Would you know anything?

What netgear modem are you using? Just to confirm do any other computers or devices on your network also receive a dhcp in the 192.168.0.*/24 subnet?

I use a Netgear C6300 and I'm pretty sure no other devices use it, but how would I check that?

Download the manual linked above. page 60 or so should help with the dhcp. The manual also list steps to check your connection from a connected device and you modem.
Ok, so I turned the setting off on my modem and now I can ssh and transfer files to my Proxmox machine! However, I still can't access the web interface in my browser. I think from here I'll just back it up now that I'm able to access files through 192.168.0.200.

I would suggest using was is said on page 61 and reserving an IP address for the MAC of your Proxmox computer on the router to whatever you have Proxmox set to. Then reboot both the router and Proxmox and see if things work then.

Yes, I did that here I forgot to mention. My PC, RasPi, and Proxmox computer all have dedicated IPs now. Still no access on the web GUI.

Edit: I just reset my Proxmox machine after backing it up via WinSCP, and I don't need this post anymore.
