Hey I recently bought a server to host a minecraft server and I used proxmox to host the vm's. I installed ubuntu server and I downloaded my server from aws that was hosted on ubuntu server and when I go to host it on proxmox in a ubuntu server vm and my friends and I go to connect to it I get connection reset/timed out errors I tried to look at it in wireshark and still can not figure out the issue. I have no firewalls enabled as well so it is a proxmox/networking issues would love some help, thanks!

Hi,

PVE implements its own firewall at cluster, node and VM level. [0]
Try to add an ACCEPT rule in the "firewall" tab of the VM for your dest. port 25565.
A way less secure option would be to turn the PVE firewall entirely off.

I hope, this can solve your issue and you can start playing selfhosted Minecraft ;)

Hi I actually have the firewall disabled completely and am having the same issues it seems to be a networking issue within proxmox. When I go to look at my interfaces in proxmox it seems they are renamed could this possibly be causing the issues? 1626946122167.png

I also have allowed port 25565 in ufw firewall the server is port forwarded and in the dmz zone its 100% a networking issues I believe and I have probably been trying to figure this out for the last week

What do you mean by "the interfaces got renamed"?

To check, if its really a networking issue, you could start trouble shooting by setting up a nginx/apache server and try to go to port 80 – if this works, its a MC server issue – if not, then probably a network/firewall issue.

Besides the firewall, the PVE does not influence any networking decisions. You could try to disable the firewall on cluster or node level, perhaps this helps anyhow.

You could also check if your interfaces are configures correctly on your host/vm

so the firewall settings of a higher level are not inherited?

If the cluster-wide firewall setting is "disabled", no other firewall options will have any effects -> No (PVE) firewall will be active

I've tried to set all the firewalls to no and it would still give me a timed out issue would this firewall affect it?
