Hi everyone, I’m new to this, but I downloaded the iso and put into my usb using Rufus, and I keep getting this error when I try to start the install.

"Welcome to the Proxmox VE 8.3 installer initial setup startup mounting proc filesystem mounting sys filesystem EFI boot mode detected, mounting efivars filesystem mount: mounting efivars on /sys/firmware/efi/efivars failed: Operation not supported boot comandline: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/linux26 ro ramdisk_size=16777216 rw quiet splash=silent proxfail vga=788 loading drivers: ..name src mac_hid video xhc_pci tcp i2c ptp5 sps100_tco acpi_cpufreq irqbypass intel_pmc_bxt msrl_rapl_pci wmi wmi_bmof_bmof rapl_msr_rapl_common mce1 sha1_ssse3 sha256_ssse3 ghash_clmulni_intel polyval_clmulni crc32_pclmul crc64id1f_pclmul kvm_amd intel_rapl_common modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'kvm_amd': Operation not supported searching for block device containing the ISO proxmox-ve-8.3-1 with ISO ID '20c7412e-a788-11ef-9ee4-4f61d24d0cfb' testing again in 1 seconds testing again in 2 seconds testing device "/dev/sda" for ISO found Proxmox VE ISO preparing installer mount points and working environment switching root from initrd to actual installation system Starting Proxmox Installation EFI boot mode detected, mounting efivars filesystem mount: /sys/firmware/efi/efivars: mount(2) system call failed: Operation not supported. dmesg(1) may have more information after failed mount system call.

Any ideas?

I also forgot to mention that I have already tried different versions, and verified that secure boot is disabled.

Without any HW details don't expect much help.

I like detective work! So I will take a stab-in-the-dark approach:

Are you trying an install on something like a GMKTec M5, if that is the case this may help you:

Enter the BIOS & under Advanced then CPU Configuration enable NX-mode .
Reboot & try installing again.

Hey thanks! I’ll try to answer as much hardware details as ya want, just tell me what ya need haha! So I don’t have that exact mini pc, but I am doing it on a bosgame one I found on amazon. I do see where that is in my BIOS! I’ll give it a go and let ya know!

It worked!!!!! Thank you so much!! Sorry for not including hardware in my initial question, I’ll make sure to do that from now on!

Happy you got it worked out.

Maybe mark this thread as Solved. At the top of the thread, choose the Edit thread button, then from the (no prefix) dropdown choose Solved.

Thank you so, so much. After several hours of searching for a solution I found this thread. I was literally just about to give up and accept that the BOSGAME P4 Pro Ryzen 7 5800U I bought off Amazon was not going to work with Proxmox VE. In the BIOS under CPU Configuration I changed the NX Mode to Enabled and now the system works great.

The error I was getting was:
mount: mounting efivars on /sys/firmware/efi/efivars failed: Operation not supported

This appears to be the same error that prompted this thread in the first place. Again, thank you! I am so glad I can now use this hardware. The interesting but somewhat understandable thing I found is that another BOSGAME Mini PC worked just fine. The BOSGAME E1 model uses an Intel N100 CPU and from what I've found during my research the error we were dealing with appears to be related to newer Ryzen processors. I have an older Ryzen machine that doesn't have this problem.

I just thought of something. Once the system is working and has Proxmox VE installed and operational should the NX Mode be changed back to Disabled or left Enabled? I tested both settings and both work but it leaves me wondering what the NX Mode setting should be left at.

it leaves me wondering what the NX Mode setting should be left at.
NX mode stands for No-Execute Mode, & is a form of Disable Execute Bit found in many BIOSs supposed to restrict certain pieces of codes from running in different sections/parts of RAM.
The reason I gave my original advice to the OP, is because AFAIR this setting has caused issues to many mini PCs running sketchy BIOSs mostly with AMD chips. I'd leave it off.

Hello everyone I can't install Proxmox 8th version. Displays an error during installation and the process stops. VT-v is disabled, I tried to turn it on, but it doesn't help. What can I try?
