We are planning to move from VMware to Proxmox. Does anyone have best practices for configuring a Proxmox hypervisor in a production environment? I am new to Proxmox and do not have much experience with it.

Hi @kaushal_shah,

There is a wealth of documentation, blog posts, and video material available on configuring PVE. Your question is quite broad, as production environment planning involves many different aspects, including:
  • CPU and vCPU sizing
  • Networking
  • Storage
  • Security
  • Budget
In general, a three-node PVE cluster installed in a homelab is not drastically different from a three-node enterprise deployment. The primary differences lie in the underlying hardware, as well as the network and storage design.

You can even install PVE cluster as virtual machines within your existing VMware environment and start experimenting. That will help you become familiar with the platform and allow you to ask more targeted questions.

If you feel you need assistance getting started right away, your best option is to reach out to a Proxmox Partner, who can help design and deploy an environment that meets your requirements.

Given the wide range of variables—such as the environment, configuration, and intended use—it is impossible to simply prescribe a single "best practice."
Furthermore, for mission-critical production environments, you should purchase a subscription to ensure you receive appropriate support.

Good idea, although this is mainly for technical problems, a Proxmox (VE) partner may be a better starting option for presales support.

Maybe somebody can help me, I need to move a Windows Server 2003 x86 (32 bits) Standard from VMware 7.1 to Proxmox VE 9.2 is it possible ?
Hi @wendellrodriguez , its best to open your own thread vs "hijacking" a loosely related thread of another poster.

The short answer to your question - yes, it should be possible. Thousands of people have done similar migrations. Have you tried it already and did it fail in any specific way?

I not try to hijacking anything, I new on this place, please try to be nice with a new member in the future.
Welcome to the forum.

There was nothing unpolite in @bbgeek17 ‘s reply. It‘s common sense since the early days of forums and boards not to hijack threads what is part of the netiquette.

Opening your own thread with a good title will help you to get specific answers (to a specific problem).
