Hi everyone,
I started from Derek Seaman’s guide for putting a Proxmox Backup Server datastore on a Synology iSCSI LUN. I wanted to make it more interactive, with menus and clear choices, so it’s easier to follow and harder to get wrong. I’ve built it with a lot of help from Claude AI. It started as a small script and has grown quite a bit since.
It connects the LUN with CHAP, looks at the disk without touching it, keeps existing data unless you choose to format, mounts it safely, and then keeps an eye on the connection and repairs it if it drops. There’s also a login screen that shows the state of everything when you SSH in, and you can add or remove a drive from the menu.
I use it on my own PBS (4.2 on Debian 13) with a Synology, and it works fine for me. I haven’t tried other DSM versions or models, so I’d like to hear how it goes for others. It’s a root script that can format a disk, so please read it first and try it on a spare LUN if you can.
