I have 6 Poweredge 415s that Im tryign to turn into a hypervisor cluster, 4 as VE Servers and 2 as Backup Servers. problem is they all have the Dell S300 Raid controllers, and I've created a raid pool for OS and raid pool for Bulk storage but the server cannot seem to see the raid volumes. Ive used a variety of raid cards in the past but never had an issue like this. Is there an S300 driver somehwere and if so how do i get it installed into the proxmox live install environment so that I can see the volumes during install?

AFAIK Dell S300 Raid are fake-raid controllers, i.e. there is no hardware-raid support. Instead, they just store the configuration for some software RAID implementation (completely useless).

So you can simply use ZFS RAID instead.

So would I need a new card? I'm fine with ZFS but if I configure the card to have the disks treated as non-raid will I be able to see them or would I need to get a card that supports HBA?

perusing the other posts about the s300 its seems about 50/50 and the determining factor seems to be weather or not the motherboard has an option to set the SAS controller as an AHCI host which the 415 does not appear to support. looks like ill be buying some H700s
