Hello

I've seen that hardware RAID for drives, using Proxmox, is bad.
What exactly are the restrictions?

I'm building new servers and I'm thinking of putting Proxmox on SATA SSDs in a RAID*, but the storage for VMs would be on U.3 drives.
Would this be acceptable? I would use the U.3 drives for Ceph.

* - I bought used Dell servers with BOSS cards I would use for the OS.

The only time you want to avoid hardware RAID is when you use a software RAID or array management.
Especially ZFS. This is not a Proxmox restriction, just general good practice.

Your hardware RAID for boot drive will work fine. I used to use RAID on BOSS cards with no issues (but lately switched to ZFS)
