I've installed a default proxmox 5.0 on a 900Gb raid disk :

This has auto-created an apprx 100Gb boot storage, and a 717.85 GiB lvm-thin 'storage'

Now i want to install a VM with QEMU disks (for thin provisioning & snapshots), bit in the "lvm-thin" storage are only RAW disk possible. Can this be changed, in a way that I can use this storage?

The main cause for this is the VM's will need to perform 24/7, and i understood backup up a live RAW disk would have a big impact on the performance during backup. Also creating snapshots would be nice, and this isn't possible with raw disks.

Hi,

lvm-thin is a raw blockdev what supports snapshot.
Raw images only used on directory storage.

Qemu backup snapshot mode has nothing to do this the storage snapshot.
LXC backup snapshot need storage snapshot.

see https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Storage

Great, thanks for the answer, installed it on the lvm-thin, and scheduled a backup during the night, wile it's on full load, we'll see.
