Hello, I apologize if there is an answer posted already but I looked all over Google magic for how to fix this set up and cannot.

Proxmox 4.4 set up
VM machine Running Windows 10, VirtIO set up (attempt anyway!)
I have all the drivers downloaded and installed from Fedora project.
I set the IP's inside the guest machine to match my Proxmox.

I cannot get my VM to connect to the Network, therefore no internet. Please Help!! Im going crazy.. Im not crazy good at SSH but can follow a guide if there is something I need to do inside on the backend..

Please Help.

Honestly I'm a rookie and didn't junk it would be his difficult to get set up and connected.

I even thought the VM would set the IP automatically to connect to my IP at the Host.

So I went into my VM(guest) and entered the same IP as the host...

I can't find good instructions anywhere on setting up the VirtIO the exact way. I did watch some YouTube videos.

Would using the Intel E100 work better? I did the VirtIO as I read it performs a bit better.

this can and will not work
every computer in the same network needs to have a different ip

I guess I don't know how to set this up then. I shouldn't have to know code to set a VM up.

The reason I thought it needed the same IP was because the VM isn't actually connecting to anything..
I've got it set up as a bridge.

Can you tell me how to set this up to connect to the internet.
Telling me this can't work doesn't help me. Of course it doesn't work. I wouldn't be asking after wasting 2 days trying to get a simple machine running.

Maybe VMware would have been easier and less convoluted to set up?

I don't know how to assign a virtual windows program a fake IP address so it connects to my proxmox network and the internet. I guess I don't understand.

how does your network setup look like? (the content of /etc/network/interfaces is also interesting)
a bridge is like virtual switch where the vms plug into (also the host)
so you can imagine that there is a switch connected where your host is connected, and in that (virtual) switch your host and vms are plugged in
does this help in understanding?

also did you already see/read the documentation?
https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Network_Model

I didn't see that exact article. I've seen another but maybe another forum.

I guess my question is... so I need to SSH in and look at that interface code and see how it's set up?

I have not done that. I didn't realize I needed to go in that deep to get this to work.

How do I know what IP to assign the VM? That's what confuses me now and I'm sure this solves all the problems correct?

Am I able to use the Exact set up as in the article link that you posted?

And if so, I set this up in the VM's console correct, or do I go in through my terminal on my physical machine?

no, you can see this information also on the webinterface under node -> network
but on the console it is easier to copy/paste it here

only you can know what ip you want to give the vm and this totally depends how your local network looks like:

e.g. my home network looks something like this:

my router (a virtual pfsense) has 10.0.0.1
my pve host has 10.0.0.6
my nas has 10.0.0.9
my vms have ips between 10.0.0.10 and 10.0.0.30
and my dhcp clients (phones, laptops, pcs) get ips in the range 10.0.0.50 - 10.0.0.150

Am I able to use the Exact set up as in the article link that you posted?
the bridge mode (the default) will work in most cases, and is automatically setup when installing via our iso
the exact portnames/ips depend on your hardware/network

So, I should not need to go into the console and alter anything?
I just need to know what IP to set inside Windows 10 on my VM?
That's what confuses me. If I cannot set the IP the same as the other IP, where do I find out what IP to give inside my Windows 10 Network Configuration? This is all I need to set up correct?

Am I able to just add that extra '0' on the end.
For example, my router is 10.0.0.1, I can assign my VM 10.0.0.11?

again this depends totally on how your network looks like.
just imagine the vm is a new computer in your network (but i am wondering if you have no dhcp server, if you do have one, the vm should have gotten an address automatically)

if you describe how your network looks like, and post your network configuration of the host, i probably could help a little more

Man I didn't think this should be so hard..

Here is what I'm trying to do.

I have an iMac on WiFi SurfBoard Modem and AirPort Extreme Router.

I'm trying to run some Windows Software that searches expired domains, so I purchased VPS through OVH.com

I installed Proxmox so I can install Windows 10 on the VM put my software on the Windows and connect to Internet.

In researching it seemed like VirtIO was the best set up so I configure the new VM on proxmox the way it was explained. Downloaded drivers for Ethernet, Balloon, etc.. everything is functioning.

I just get the connectivity error that says IP's are not set up.

I assumed that means inside of Windows 10 on my VM, I need to set up the IPv4 address and gateway so I can reach the internet.

So I was under the impression that I was to set the IPV4 address inside my virtual Windows 10 to coincide with the my Node inside proxmox..

but you could try to choose "nat" mode if you simply need the vm to have internet access

Ya I just need it to be girly fast and efficient. The software I run does a lot of work. Thanks for your time.

I'll see if this helps. Maybe I'll be back if not. LOL.
Thanks.

I still cannot get this to work. there must be an easy set up to make this work.. How can no one help on this with a clearcut set up.

Im, running Windows 10 on a VPS hosted by So you Start(OVH) - with VirtIO configuration
