Proxmox 4.0 : external metrics server wiki howto

hi,
i tested the proxmox graphite connection, but the ethernet metrics are very limited, or maybe I do something wrong. I can't get bits/s from nics metrics. I only get transmit and receive but the values are a total amount of bits.

Do you have more informations about this?

this is because you cannot have at any point in time a 'per second' metric and be accurate
(because a rate is a value over a timespan, never at a single point in time; but a counter is accurate at a specific point in time)
the linux kernel just counts the packets/bits/bytes/etc.

in grafana ( i do not know if this is also available in graphite) you can use such output with a 'non negative derivative' function to get a
graph for eg bytes/s (i do this on my own homelab)
 
i installed collectd on vm's and collectd can log bits(bytes)/sec. can you show me an example of your own lab? i'm new to grafana.
