I am delighted about the new Proxmox developments.
I use some virtual machines that have the need to store some data in an optical drive, and I guess that a nice adition for backup purposes would be to enable packet writing on the host proxmox machine, and share it as a drive to every client. This could be enabled on the base distribution.

Please let me know your thoughts on this!

Keep up the good work!

Optical drives are usually too small for backup purposes - what kind of drive do you talk about?

I'm talking about blue-ray disks. 50Gb seems enough for a lot of backup purposes.

I guess that all packages needed for packet writing should be installed by default, and a samba share on the network should be available to configure on the web gui for the optical drive. This way, any client on the network could write to it, since it becomes a shared network drive. This feature already exists on one LG NAS (lg n2b1). Just imagine how it would be easy to schedule backups of virtual machines to this proxmox host conected drive.

Of course this is just my opinion, since I care about Proxmox a lot ;)

Any news on the expected stable realease of v1.4?
