I am new to Proxmox and have used it to set up my home lab. My disk configuration is a single 16 gb SSD for Proxmox and a seperate 64 gb SSD for VM, set up as a separate LV. After a lot of reading and trial and error I have everything working. In general after a project like this I like to restart with a clean install taking only the steps I now know I need to configure for my specific usage, maybe this is a hold over from working with Windows.

So my question is can a do a clean install on and point proxmox at the existing VMs on the other SSD. I know I can backup and restore to accomplish this but just checking if there is a easier way.

Hi,

at the installation we touch only the device you select in the installation wizard.
All other disks will not touched by the installer.

Sure I understand that part but if I have an undisturbed LV with VM's that worked with an old host how do I tell the clean Proxmox install to host those VM's.

save the VM.config and restore it on the new host.
But the storage must have the same name on the new host.

path
/etc/pve/qemu-server/<VMID>.conf
