PMG _is_ the outbound SMTP server - is that a Valid Use Case?

Simply: Could we run PMG appliance(s) as the outbound smarthost(s) for servers and workstations on our internal network (that is, we would use no other SMTP handler for outbound email except PMG)?

Details: We would like to run an appliance/virtual appliance as our outbound SMTP smarthost. We'd like to NOT run SMTP software such as postfix or Windows SMTP for this. The clients for our outbound SMTP smarthost are both other servers (static IPs) and personally assigned workstations (dynamic IPs). These are all currently configured to use the "mailout" or "mailout-bulk" SMTP smarthost (currently run as hardware and virtual appliances from a vendor that is discontinuing all SMTP appliances in favor of cloud service). The advantage is the GUI and not having to learn the SMTP intricacies of postfix, etc to configure basic email queuing and MTA functions. Yes, our current solution does spam filtering, too, but in 13 years there have only been a handful of outbound spam. So the primary thing we want is appliance to accept mail, queue it and transfer it on.

We're looking for one appliance or appliance image that we could configure to be the smarthost, with no addons like separately configured postfix/sendmail/WindowsSMTP. Could PMG do that?
