Hi all.

I’m starting a HA cluster and one thing I would really like is to virtualise my one windows server 2022 box.

Issue is that I run some software on it that is locked to hardware IDs.

Is there a way to make a like for like replica to virtualise a server and maintain the hardware IDs of everything?
Like down to the NIC and motherboard ID?

MS provides a thing for doing that on the NICs. Dunno if it will meet your needs, but you can add a virtual network adapter and manually give it the old MAC ID, so your software still thinks it has the old NIC. It works for SAP.

Device Manager > Network adapters
Click on the Action drop-down menu, and select Add legacy hardware.
Click on Next on the Add Hardware Wizard, choose the manual install process radio button and click on Next. Select Network adapters from the list, and click on Next.
Select Microsoft on the Manufacturer list and then Microsoft KM-TEST Loopback Adapter.
Click on Next to confirm the installation and then Finish.

Edit ... LOL ... just read your login name. Love it.

Thanks!

I believe the software checks for more than just the NICs HWID.
A full clone so to speak would be amazing if possible? Is this a thing?
