Hello all,

Ive been having some issue's trying to rebuild my pve on a new node.
Ive been trying to replace my current machine since it ran out of upgrade options.

old machine was intel xeon E3-1245 v3 on consumer board
new machine ryzen 5 5600gt also consumer board b550m ds3

in the old machine i was able to pass through a pci express card (not grafix) to one of my vm's
however on the new one it seems that as soon as i do the the pve node crashes loses network and its boot ssd's

the pci, nic and sata ports al seem to be in the same iommu group
in the bios iommu svm and pci ari are all enabled on the new platform while in the old vt-d and vt-x were enabled

is it posible to passthrough a pci device in an iommu group which is in the same group as my boot drive or will this just not work?

The B550 can only passthrough the (first x16) PCIe slot connected to the CPU. Everything else is connected via the chipset and in a single group. For AM4, only X570(S) has everything is separate groups.
You cannot share any devices from the same IOMMU group between VMs and/or the Proxmox host in a secure way: https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/PCI_Passthrough#Verify_IOMMU_isolation
Lots of threads about Ryzen chipset groups in the past: https://forum.proxmox.com/search/7972476/?q=b550+iommu+group&o=date

thanx a lot i will give it a try on the first slot

this was indeed the issue i was running into thanx verry much
