Hello,

This is quite a newbie question but I can't find an answer anywhere else.

I've got a bit of a messy setup.
I'm running pve 6.3-6
My motherboard is a Supermicro a1sam-2550f and I want to connect a mini-pcie wifi card (Qualcomm Atheros 9280) via a mini-pcie-to-pcie adapter.

With lspci, lshw or dmesg the card does not show up. If I connect a different card to the same pci-slot it shows up without a hitch (Blackmagicdesign Mini Monitor).

If I connect the Adapter/Wifi-card to my Windows PC (Gigabyte ud3r x58 motherboard) it shows up and functions immediately.

Am I missing something? I can't install the atheros-firmware because it conflicts with pve-firmware. I tried different Bios Settings but to no avail.

Here is the lspci output
root@pve:~# lspci 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Atom processor C2000 SoC Transaction Router (rev 02) 00:01.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation Atom processor C2000 PCIe Root Port 1 (rev 02) 00:02.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation Atom processor C2000 PCIe Root Port 2 (rev 02) 00:03.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation Atom processor C2000 PCIe Root Port 3 (rev 02) 00:0e.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Atom processor C2000 RAS (rev 02) 00:0f.0 IOMMU: Intel Corporation Atom processor C2000 RCEC (rev 02) 00:13.0 System peripheral: Intel Corporation Atom processor C2000 SMBus 2.0 (rev 02) 00:14.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation Ethernet Connection I354 (rev 03) 00:14.1 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation Ethernet Connection I354 (rev 03) 00:14.2 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation Ethernet Connection I354 (rev 03) 00:14.3 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation Ethernet Connection I354 (rev 03) 00:16.0 USB controller: Intel Corporation Atom processor C2000 USB Enhanced Host Controller (rev 02) 00:17.0 SATA controller: Intel Corporation Atom processor C2000 AHCI SATA2 Controller (rev 02) 00:18.0 SATA controller: Intel Corporation Atom processor C2000 AHCI SATA3 Controller (rev 02) 00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation Atom processor C2000 PCU (rev 02) 00:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corporation Atom processor C2000 PCU SMBus (rev 02) 01:00.0 PCI bridge: ASPEED Technology, Inc. AST1150 PCI-to-PCI Bridge (rev 03) 02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ASPEED Technology, Inc. ASPEED Graphics Family (rev 30)

Thanks in advance.

Hey,

a little update on my behalf.

I was able to borrow another mini-pcie wifi card from work.
This one is immediately recognized by the system.

Code:
lspci -nn

03:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Inc. and subsidiaries BCM4352 802.11ac Wireless Network Adapter [14e4:43b1] (rev 03)

So my guess is that the off-brand Atheros Card is at fault, although it is recognized in my windows pc and in another box directly by pfSense.
Is there any point or way in trying to revive the card?

My ultimate goal is to build a software access point which will be bridged to my pfSense VM. The Broadcom card I nicked (get it? Nic) from work doesn't support AP-Mode to my knowledge.
Code:
iw list
[...]
    Supported interface modes:
                 * IBSS
                 * managed

It would be great if someone could just push me in the right direction. Buy a new card or make Atheros run or is there a way to get AP-Mode on the Broadcom?

Thank you in advance
