PBS does only boot with USB Stick

Hi,

I'm using PVE since a few months, and to complete my setup I made an old PC to a PBS. The installation worked well and very fast. Also the first steps and backups were really easy.

But now I found a weird issue. The system does only start if the Install-Stick is plugged in. Without the stick the boot process stops with the message:

loading linux 6.8.12-4-pve ...

With the stick everything works well.

The installation partition is my ssd. The iso image is a fresh download in version 3.3. I tried the graphical installer as well as the command line installer.

Could it be possible, that the kernel is not installed on the ssd? Do I need to update the grub?

When the stick is inserted, is the system booted from the stick or from the local SSD?

Does it have to be the PBS installation stick, or will any USB stick do?

The BIOS boot entries match?

Have you ever booted PBS into debug mode with the second kernel entry (without the stick)?

Hi, thanks for the help, meanwhile I could fix the problem. I had to select the non UEFI boot option for the installation process. Now it works as it should.

But for others how run in the same problem. It has to be the installation stick, other sticks do not work. After the boot process (with install stick plugged in) the system run on the SSD. I´m not sure, but I think the issue came from wrong UEFI partitions, and the kernel was not on the right path.
