The quick and dirty:
I am looking to pass through a bunch of disks that already contain data to a VM so the VM can access the disks directly without doing any modification to them.
Addition information that will be helpful to provide a useful solution:
I currently am running 3 servers on my home network, 1 proxmox, and 2 OMV servers. The two OMV servers contain a total of about 14 phyical disks, a total of 2 ZFS file systems, and a few EXT3 file systems using mergerfs and Snapraid. However am looking to replace everything with a single proxmox server, and then virtualize OMV. Why? I like OMV, and I know OMV, and thats what I want to do.
I will NOT be using drives passed through to store anything from proxmox on (I know that is just asking for trouble) but what I am looking to do is pass through the drives without changing anything on them so OMV can see them and I can just remount the ZFS, EXT3 FS, create the shares, etc etc etc.
I have seen a few videos online, but they all say "Erase the drive and re-create a partition so you can get the drive UUID" Well.. Erasing the drive doesn't work for me (obviously) so I am wondering if there are any good directions on how to do it WITHOUT erasing the drives.
