OpenVZ container tutorials. Cant get further than initial setup

So I am in the process of learning Proxmox better and better and am trying to figure out how to accomplish some little things and also trying to figure out my options. I am making a small home Proxmox server. I have it all setup and working and need to start install VM's. I can setup a standalone VM just fine no issues. However I want to run ~5 (as of now) ubuntu server 12.04 machines. I can easily install all separate VM's but would like to utilize the functions of proxmox. I was trying to setup a OpenVZ container and also tried making a template. I can get very far though. some questions:

1. I download the ubunut-12.04-X86_64.tar.gz from openvz template page. I upload it to the local hdd in proxmox and then created a CT. After I have this setup and I can see the OpenVZ Container what do I do? I cant figure out what I need to do after that to make a ubuntu server instance of that template.
2. Should I be using OpenVZ? I setup a Ubuntu Server VM and then right clicked on it and clicked "convert to template". After this I would right click and select "clone". It would create another VM and I would start it up but couldn't get on the my network (wanting to do bridged for everything). When I create a clone is that "linking" everything to that base template image?

So this is the main spot that I am getting confused, is trying to just use a base (or template) of Ubuntu Server and create multiple instances of that base. I tried following a couple guides and watch some videos on youtube however Im not able to successfully create what I am tyring. Here is one of the guides I followed:

Can you guys point me to a good guide or just please explain what I need to do to make this work. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!!

'CREATE CT'

That will let you create an OpenVZ container, then you just point it to your template that you downloaded.

I got that far and that seem to setup fine. I pointed it to the template and everything seemed to work. But how do a build a VM off of that container?

You don't make VM's from containers. The container is a 'VM'
You can deploy as many containers as you want from the same template you downloaded.
