Open Media Vault on container install issues

Hi. Trying to get a file server running on a container under a proxmox-ve-2.6.32: 2.3-96 installation.
Open Media Vault runs under a Debian install and the new version will use a Debian 7 as base installation so I was trying to do an install now under a Debian 7 container.
Apparently the install requires dependancies that are not on the repositories so I was trying to follow the instructions at https://wiki.debian.org/InstallOpenMediaVaultOnDebian but I get stuck on the installs as those deb packages are not available specifically for the pve kernel. I tried installing the AMD64 version of them without success. So not sure if I just need to give up until there is a full Debian 7 version available.

Alternatively I will be trying over a Debian 6 container hoping the dependencies there are available.

Any comment/alternative about installing this or a NAS type container like Open Media Vault?
Thanks.

Hi, not sure about what are you trying to do, or what are the benefits of using that custom install on Debian, but:

Your 'missing' dependencies are not related to pve kernel, are related to the Debian container that you have used for the installation.

If you need to use Debian method I would suggesto to Using a KVM, with a 'minimal' install and then try to build OMV on it.

Regards

P.S. You can see mi OMV config here: http://forum.proxmox.com/threads/17771-Proxmox-VM-iSCSI-vs-local-storage?p=90395#post90395

thanks for the reply.

I've now installed it over a debian 6 container but have other issues as OpenMediaVault does not seem to have a "local directories" option for sharing points. I mean, even if I bind mount the partitions I want to share with the NAS I can't seem to find a way of adding them as the NAS expects physical disks, raids or LVM partitions, but apparently not just a dir of the local system ;(

Regarding the Debian 7 the problem is that when installing the system queries the kernel and as the pve one is patched it reports a dependancy problem with those packages that need installing for Open Media Vault to be installed.

The KVM issue was discarded as we don't want to have the shared files running form a "virtual disk" on the KVM machine. As far as I understand I can not bind a whole disk/partition of the host to a KVM, so that is not good enough for us.

Sorry, but I do not use containers, and do not know if that is correct (I think no) ...

You can virtualized OVM under KMV:
--OMV system disk as a virtual disk under pve (8-10 GB)
---You CAN bind a physical disk to the virtual machine for data disks (see posts on above link).
---or you can use LVM (as recommend by 'almost' every user in this forum).
