We have just moved to PVE from ESXI and have notice a speed impact in comparison.
We have moved from using the PERC H740P raid card to ZFS putting the PERC card into HBA mode and do not get the same speeds in the VM when using database application.
We are running Dell R640 8 X Samsung PM1643 1.9TB drives with ZFS Pool with RAID10 equivalent and 512GB mem so lots for ARC. For info OS is on Raid1 Boss Card.
If we use the PERC raid card in RAID10 and ZFS Single disk presented from Raid card we get better speed (aware there is a "don't mix HW raid and zfs").
The primary difference I would see is the PERC does have 8Gb Cache for Writes which will be battery backup RAM so wonder if this is helping with the write speed.
With this in mind we got some NVDIMM's to put into the server and test using as the SLOG.
Two questions:
1. Has anyone tried this before or got it to working as we are struggling to get the NVDIMM's to be available in Proxmox?
2. Any better ideas? (appreciate have not provided any benchmarks etc)
