- Dell R730xx (32gb RAM, 2 proc)
- Proxmox 8.3.0
- 2x 256gb SSD (1 for proxmox, 1 for VM OSs)
- 8x 6tb NAS rotationals
- 3x 8tb NAS rotationals
I'm a bit lost on the best RAID config as well as how to properly pass it thru to TrueNAS without redundancy on the drive size AND for most reliable use.
This office currently has a 12bay synology (old) with ~50TB in data. We intend to migrate to TrueNAS on the proxmox box.
- I'm doing the 2 SSDs as directories for OS installs (already have proxmox on one and TrueNAS on the other).
- How would you recommend setup of the 6tb and 8tb drives? 2 different ZFS RAIDs? I'm a bit partial to z2 (better speed but double-redundant). Is that the best route?
- How do I avoid having TrueNAS 'raid' the RAID again?
- I clicked in the VM (TrueNAS) and tried to "Add a Hard Drive", but found that the drive size is always much smaller than the actual RAID config. Then when I get inside TrueNAS, it seems to be much smaller yet - -leaving me to assume that TrueNAS is going to use the ZFS Raid as part of another raid? is that accurate??Hhow do I avoid that?
