New network card Fenvi dual port i226 2.5gbit no lights on leds

Hello everybody.

I just got a new wireless router to use as an AP in my home and it has a 2.5gbit port. Because it is able to pass the 1gbit throughput wirelessly, I decided to order a Fenvi dual port 2.5gbit pcie1x lan card from aliexpress.

All fine and dandy, but I can't seem to establish a connection on this new card.
After assigning that port to the already existing vmbr0 and plugging in a laptop into any of the ports, a green light on the port flashes for a fraction of a second after which it stays off.

Any idea what I should try?
First off, I was running mtu9000 on my vswitch and all my network ports. This prohibited me to run ifreload -a, resulting in ```warning: error while writing to file /sys/class/net/enp8s0/mtu: [Errno 19] No such device```
If running: `ip link set dev enp8s0 mtu 9000`, I got ```RTNETLINK answers: No such device```

I thought I might just try it: I passed through one nic port to a windows vm. "All functions" ticked.

I had to manually download the drivers from intel. Windows update could not find the necessary drivers?

After installing the drivers, no restart required, I could establish a link between the vm and a physical laptop plugged into the port on the network card.
