just getting started- still a ton of reading to do--lean and burn while doing--- as will be purchasing subscription tomorrow anyway: I am a home user and this will be for home use and most importantly a son who is starting his networking degrees- so be gentle I am self taught as a laser engineer retired is what I do now..lol

PLan to use for light back up and VM creation and use- will be doing DNS,DHCP servers; UTM box and PF sense box- at the moment nothing is installed and is only 1gbe lan- have 1g internet-
Have a registered domain not in use- and plan to do a 10g LAN

Hardware may look a little off- but was planning to use an Unraid setup until I read some great things on serve the home-

I am planning a 3 node setup- one question does the x9drd board with 2 cpu sockets mean its a 2 nose setup? and if so then using a separte single socket server board would make 3 and it could be a dedicated management

Hi,

does the x9drd board with 2 cpu sockets mean its a 2 nose setup
No this is a single node with two sockets.
If you add an extra node (doesn't matter how many sockets it got) you got 2 nodes.

This HW should be fine for a home tastlab server.
