Hello folks,

Looking at a possible migration to Proxmox from ESXi for obvious reasons.

Went to install Proxmox on my backup machine - the same exact make/model as the ESXi box - and it's failing trying to load the drivers at bootup. I get the menu, and choosing either graphical or terminal install simply hangs endlessly.

I ran it in debug mode and took this pic:

...Anyone have any idea why it just hangs at this point?

Thanks!

Hi,

it fails to load the Nvidia driver, as can be seen from the last line. Esp. Nvidia drivers are always bad-behaving, unfortunately that's a problem with the green company.

You can try setting the nomodeset parameter - that normally always solves this problem: https://pve.proxmox.com/pve-docs/pve-admin-guide.html#nomodeset_kernel_param

Otherwise, you can also install stock Debian 12 and then Proxmox VE on top of it: https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Install_Proxmox_VE_on_Debian_12_Bookworm
Or try our relatively new unattended installation option: https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Automated_Installation

The nomodeset parameter did the trick. Thanks!

Now to figure this all out.... :)
