Network configuration of host and guests connectivity

Today I had to change the network configuration of my proxox hosts (add a new bridge). After doing this manually by editing /etc/network/interfaces file and stop/start of networking, my guests lost network connectivity and I had to shut them down and start them to restore connectivity.
Is there some kind of a workaround, which would avoid shutting down guests, when changing network config of hosts?
