Hello everyone! I'm a Vmware refugee like I suspect many others are also.
I'm converting my first customer over to Proxmox. I have a couple of esxi VMs with large disks, 10T or so.
When using the esxi converter, does it treat empty disk space any different than occupied disk space?
For example, if it's copying block by block, then it doesn't care if files are stored there or not. But it it's working file aware, then it knows it only had to copy the blocks with file data in them.
The reason I ask, I can copy large data stores over to temp storage on VM in the PVE and then move them back to the server once it's transferred. That could save a lot of down time if the converter is file aware. But if it is not, then I'm stuck with the long copy times with the VM turned off. That's a lot more painful to the customer.
So the question is, Does the converter only copy disk space with contents or does it copy all disk space?
