Multiple Proxmox Bugs

Hi Everyone!

This is a cool project that I just stumbled upon and wanted to test out. In doing so I found a couple bugs and thought I would take the time to share them with you guys.

Using Proxmox version 1.1

1) I could not upload a 3.3GB .iso file using either Firefox 3.0.6 or IE 7.5730.13 on a fully up-to-date (as of Feb 27, 2009) Win XP SP3 installation. Firefox would show the dialog about uploading but I would see no network traffic and IE would just give a connection error. I did have success when using Google Chrome v1.0.154.48 however.

2) I tried to create a RedHat EL 5.3 KVM virtual machine using my dvd .iso that I uploaded using chrome. When the VNC console loaded I found that my mouse cursor inside VNC did not match up to my normal mouse cursor. It was very confusing to see two mouse cursors. This may be due to the new kernel mode installation used in 5.3. Probobly a VNC compatibilty issue. I did not have time to try it out but you could test using the latest Fedora that also uses this new kernel mode installer.

3) On installation (using keyboard to navigate the installer due to the mouse issue) I got a "read only file system" error. I set this up to use virtio drivers for the hard disk.

Hope this helps.
- Vince

Update!

The hard disk was using virtio (supported for linux guests as noted in the wiki docs) as the mode when I got that error. I removed that hard disk and created a new one using IDE mode and the install went through.

I'm still experiencing vnc mouse tracking issues even in the console of my server though so maybe its not a compatibility issue with the new kernel mode gui installer afterall.

I have also seen those tracking issue but I dismissed it as an issue with Java vnc and some operating systems. This happens with some Fedora and Windows installs and I have had this issue with non-virtualized operating systems using vnc via http (similar to Proxmox's implimentation I am assuming).

I found that once the OS has been installed, using standard VNC server and client for Linux and Terminal Service/Remote Desktop for Windows worked out best. I am not suggesting this as a solution, simply a workaround and some extra information.

You simply need to install the correct mouse driver. For xorg this is the 'vmmouse' driver.
