Moving VMs to new Proxmox VE install on same machine

I currently have a Proxmox VE server set up without less than ten VMs running. I recently acquired an SSD and would like to install Proxmox VE to the new SSD and transfer the VMs to the new Proxmox install. What is the best way to do this?

I'm trying to follow this page. Honestly I've never made a backup of any of the VMs, I'm not even sure if a backup is the correct process for what I'm trying to do. I don't have much experience with setting up an NFS server, which seems to be the best practice method for backups. From reading the wiki page, it seems I shouldn't (can't?) use the local storage I created the VMs from as a backup destination. I actually did this before I read that part on the wiki and it didn't throw me any errors, so hopefully I didn't screw it up completely already.

My thinking for the procedure is this:
1. Make the backup to the current drive
2. Install Proxmox VE to the SSD
3. Restore the VMs from the original drive

I might be overlooking a few things (will Proxmox see the old drive? Will it play nicely? Will it want to format all of the storage it sees as part of the initial install?) Sorry if these are simple questions, I'm relatively new to virtualization.

Thanks,
